Oh my goodness! Has it really been YEARS since I posted on here? Oh, well, rather than just starting a new blog, let's see if this one can rise out of the ashes, shall we? A lot has changed since my last post. I am no longer an unemployed student, I quit looking for the best deals/freebies/coupons and wham! Welcome to Depression/Recession 2.0. Seriously. Anyway, time to update this blog, update the content and continue on.......

There are many ways to make the most of your money online. Most everyone is familiar with Groupon, but don't forget one which caters to mothers, PlumDistrict

PlumDistrict recently had a special where you could get a $50 gift card for only $25. Naturally, I jumped on the deal. Unfortunately, despite all of my research I neglected to check the shipping charges. Almost $18 for shipping. Since I didn't want to pay any more out of pocket, I kept the food total down to $30ish and used my gift card to cover the shipping. That was my own fault for not doing more research. Anyway, the company is Magic Kitchen and we shall see how the cheesecake and chocolate cake taste when they arrive Wednesday.

There are many more of these out there, but these are the two I chose to highlight for today. I will highlight more online group buying sites later. If you have one to share, please send me a note!

My inspiration for being frugal

I love knowing that I have enough "stuff" stockpiled so that I will never worry about running out of shampoo or hair dye. Knowing that I can help my friends out if they should ever run low on such things also gives me the warm fuzzies. With Refund Cents you discover that if everyone pools all of their info, EVERYONE comes out ahead. I LOVE discovering special deals (often unadvertised) at places like Walgreens, WalMart and grocery stores. They even have a trading board for trading unwanted coupons and forms. If you are interested, check them out here: http://refundcents.com/subscriptions.htm?REFID=D25P

Disclaimer: Yes, I get a small referral if you join but you can do the exact same thing if you join. Also, I was a member of Refund Cents LONG before I began blogging. This is not something I want people to join just so I can get referrals from. I honestly believe that this website pays for itself within weeks! I actually LOSE money when I let my membership lapse because I get such great deals.
Handmade soap giveaway!!

I recently discovered www.etsy.com and made my first purchase of homemade soap. These soaps smell wonderful and don't dry my skin out. I love them!

Since making my purchase, I discovered that this particular Etsy vendor has their own blog and is now offering a giveaway for a soap and soap dish gift set along with a free lip balm. Although not everyone will win a free set, the prices are affordable enough that you can try 2 or 3 or 4 without any financial guilt. Yes, I try to be super frugal, but everyone needs to be pampered sometimes to feel better about themselves. If you don't do it for yourself, think about what great Mother's Day or graduation presents these will make! Visit Pixie Soap and decide which scent you would like to win, then visit the owner's blog here and enter to win.

Need another reason to give Pixie Soap a try?
For every item purchased, you get another entry!

It's been HOW long since I posted?

Oh, I cannot believe this! My last post was over 40 days ago. That is absurd!

I officially am down to my last 8-10 weeks of school before I FINALLY get that BA I've been working on for EIGHTEEN years (off and on, of course). I really want to go to graduate school, but it looks like that's on hold for now. Hubby and I are thinking that for now, we need to get me a job while we can. Whenever the economy starts straightening out again I can return.

There's a couple of English teaching jobs within an hour and a half of where we're living, so I'm hopeful that I can get a job in time for entering the alternative certification program or possibly even the MAT program this summer.

Instant Win Games

I have recently discovered instant win games and LOVE them. I have won, in the past 6 months, everything from a $5 Subway gift card to a $25 Exxon gift card, and just yesterday, a coupon packet of up to $15 worth of free Kraft products.

Although I could not possibly list all of the instant win games going on now, I will give you the link to the Kraft game. You can enter 4 times per day. The game ends on February 2, 2009, but they are giving away a TON of prizes (I'm thinking upwards of 1,000 per DAY) because it is/was a short contest period. Anyway, enter here.

Enter daily and hopefully you can score some free groceries!

*** And, because I just happened to come across the link for the instant win game from GMAC for the $25 gas card, here it is as well. ***

Another Holiday Season Gone

Wow, it's really hard to believe another holiday season is gone. Am I the only one that counts everything from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day as the holiday season? The boys have gone back to school (I am still free until Thursday) and I still have tons of things that I was going to do on my Christmas break which remain unfinished. The biggest two items left to do? Clip and organize my coupons and FINALLY put away the books that've been scattered here, there and yonder since the move.

Right now we're all fighting off problems with our sinuses. Gee, maybe it's the fact that we were literally in shorts and tee shirts the day before New Years and the day after we were literally freezing. Good ole' Arkansas weather (unless, of course, you live in Texas or Missouri or one of the other many states that has weather as convoluted as ours). In any case, I'm sure I have coupons for every medication available OTC but it's probably not clipped, so I know without a doubt that I will overpay for medicine later today. Unfortunately, I will gladly do so for some relief from the crud.
